25" of snow Saturday makes for some really fun driving. (I pitty the suckers without 4wd and snow tires)
Casey get suited up for a walk.
View from our room at the main lodge
The next morning, the skys cleared.
And off we went on our new Randonee gear skins.
The road to Minaret overlook and Devil's post pile
A couple of snow shoers we shared the trail with.
Virgin snow
The Minarets and ridge above Thousand Island lake where Dad and I hiked in many years ago.
Looking down the valley towards Devil's post pile.
Mammoth ski area
Mt. Baldy, oh wait, that is Matt.
I just had to track up the powder down from the vista and see how well this rig could climb.
Removing skins and fixing heals for downhill.
Rob ready to head back down.
We got back to the lodge and I snuck on the lifts a few times to test out the new rig on the steeps then stuck 'em back on my baby.
We almost lost the white dog in the fresh snow. j/k
Casey was a trooper, he was actually having fun.
Flash shot
Long exposure (best I could do without a tripod but I still love this new Rebel XT)
Eskimo
So I decided to drop $1.5k on some new Randonee gear. While we waited for the bindings to be mounted, a snow monster attacked Bubbles!
Matt Solo trapped in Carbonite!
he is following you...
Fiona
Rob takes a turn and goes in deep
glasses and all...
back to Bishop
Took a little side trip up Whitney portal road.
Beatiful mountain! I'll be back in a month to conquer you in my new skis!
The road at the turn-out and all along the rockfall area was clear but the road up to the turn out needed 4wd and got really deep and sliperly well before the portal. Still WAY less snow this MLK weekend than when I tried last year.
Rob in his new shoes. Still some brush visible in the drainage below LBSL.
